Death of Cyrus Carlton Elmes, 1903
« on: Wednesday 10 October 18 23:39 BST (UK) »
Cyrus Carlton Elmes died in 1903 and was buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner, Kennebec County, Maine.  According to information posted at Find-A-Grave, "Cyrus went to Mexico to "seek his fortune" after his wife died.  He died in Mexico, and his body was returned to the States for burial.

Can anyone find an obituary for this man or a report of his death in Mexico?

A search on GenealogyBank for Cyrus Elmes in 1903 brought up some hits - but I don't currently have a sub to check them out

The info on FindaGrave mentions two marriages in 1875 and 1902. However it appears there may have been an earlier marriage in Cardiff in Q2 1863 to either Emma Wheeler or Eliza Evans (Cyrus Charlton or Charleton Elmes).

Thanks, ShaunJ.  I think that this might be the death in El Paso, Texas.

I'll see if I can check out that possible earlier marriage.

and another probable marriage in Berrien County, Michigan in 1870 - Cyrus C Elmes, 26 born Pennsylvania, road engineer (the marriage return document says engineer R R - railroad?). He married Eliza Chaney :  https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interactive/9093/41326_342397-00146?pid=2582517&treeid=&personid=&usePUB=true&_phsrc=yGf28525&_phstart=successSource
