Liverpool workhouse discharge and children's homes
« on: Friday 12 October 18 17:14 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have a question about a specific place to which orphaned children might have been discharged from the Liverpool workhouse in 1862.  The children in question were admitted to the fever ward with parents in Dec of 1862; the parents both died in the workhouse.  Children were discharged shortly thereafter.  I cannot decipher the notation in the column "where to," indicating where the children went after discharge, in the workhouse's discharge record.  I've attached an image of the notation.  Can anyone help me decipher it?

Hello, Rosie,

Could well be.  Thanks.  Someone has said workhouses had messengers, so perhaps the children were released to a messenger, who took them home, where there were older siblings (though none of them was an adult).  Do you know if young children would have been discharged to the care of teen-aged siblings?

Rosie,

I did post the query twice.  After the first post, I thought perhaps it would be better to post the question under the topic regarding help deciphering handwriting.  Sorry if the two posts make things inconvenient for anyone!

It is better to ask the mods to move the post than post a duplicate.  I would not have answered it or looked elsewhere for other possible suggestions if I had seen your other post with replies.  ;D
