Mary Sands
« on: Friday 12 October 18 18:37 BST (UK) »
I am trying to research Mary Sands born in Ticehurst Sussex, on 8th Dec' 1752, married to William Edwards, who may, or may not have been a solider in the American army during the revolutionary war. I believe he may have left/divorced her, they had one son, William.

Greetings, and a warm welcome to Rootschat

I presume this is the Mary SANDS baptised 8 Dec 1752 Ticehurst, parents Nicholas and Mary.

What information are you looking for?  I see you name a spouse William EDWARDS and son William - do you have details of them?  Are you looking for information on Mary's parents and family?

Philip

Many Thanks for the welcome, I wanted to find out when she died, and where she was buried. Also I wish to find out more about her husband, who seems to disappear after 1771 I believe.
Thank you.

How do you know that she married William Edwards and had a son William?
The marriage to William Edwards was in 1767 in Burwash.  This would make her only 15, and I find this rather unlikely especially since it's not the parish of her residence.
There is a marriage of a Mary Sands in Ticehurst in 1777 to a Thomas Pierce which would be much more feasible.

Hi Bev, it was information I found on Ancestry.com. if the information is true her husband would have been 17, he had been married before at the age of 15-16 in Virginia USA.

The line seems to run from William Edwards up to my Great Grandmother Sarah Edwards

I'm afraid that the information from Ancestry sounds extremely suspect.
Unless the tree owner has some verification, it sounds very unlikely to me.  But I stand to be corrected :)
A young lad married in the USA at 15, travels to the UK, marries again in Sussex to a 15.year old.....  :-\
