George Register Thompson & Mary Fleet, India 1864 onwards
« on: Saturday 13 October 18 17:01 BST (UK) »
George Register Thompson, an engine driver at marriage, married Mary Fleet on 26 September 1864 at Barrow on Humber, Lincolnshire.

They had 3 children in India;

Robert James Cochrane Thompson was born on 1 September 1865 at Ahmedabad
Annie Margaret on 11 February 1868 at Byculla and;
Edith Rhoda on 16 September 1869 at Parel, Mumbai.

George died on 8 July 1870 and his daughter Edith died on 31 July 1870 at Sewri, Mumbai.

Mary then married a Henry John Fry on 25 December 1870 at Mazgoan and something must have happened to him as on 10 October 1874 she married Henry Attfield in London, UK.  I know she brought her son Robert back to the UK as he died in 1879 in Kent and from her Attfield marriage she had 3 more children before she died in London in 1881.

So...I am interested tracking Mary's travels but also why they possibly went out to India just after they married and the fates of her Thompson children Annie and Rhoda, husband George and husband Henry.

Thanks
Ruth

Per Robert & Annie's baptism records George was a driver/engineer with the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway so presumably they went to India to take up a job opportunity.

Edith Rhoda died on 31 July 1870 and was buried at St Peter's Mazagon.
