Help would be appreciated. Pringle family
« on: Saturday 13 October 18 18:36 BST (UK) »

RICHARD PRINGLE was born in 1777 in Coldstream, Berwickshire, Scotland. He died on 24 Jun 1864 in Swinton, Berwickshire, Scotland (Y). He married Isabella Hay on 17 Nov 1822 in Ayton, Berwickshire, Scotland. She was born on 06 Sep 1795 in Coldingham, Berwickshire, Scotland. She died in 1868 in Swinton, Berwickshire, Scotland.

**Please note that Coldstream is listed but on the census it does also say Coldingham**

I have not researched any of Richards siblings yet as I am completely stumped as to who his parents are and I can't get any further.
A lot of previous researchers have a John Pringle (born 1770 Earlston) as his father and an Anne Crooks (born 1758) as his mother.
Their marriage is listed as 1786 in Gordon, Berwick, Scotland. The date of birth for Richard and the 'potential' parents marriage date is what is making me doubtful.
Richard would be my 3 x great grandfather and so far I know that going back from my Grandfather to Richard is correct.
Can someone please help discover who Richard's parents are??
And if it is John and Anne then something somewhere must be wrong but I can't see how.
There are other Pringle families around the same small areas but I have stayed on track.

Thanks in advance.

Julie.

UPDATE

I have found a James Pringle and Agnes Aleman married Coldingham 1773.
It could be that they are Richard's parents but I can't find a birth record stating it  ???

Haven't you checked Richard's death certificate? It should name his parents as a Scottish post 1855 death certificate.

And yes, spending a few credits at ScotlandsPeople.gov.uk finds parents names on it. James Pringle, weaver, and his wife Agnes Elmour. Both deceased.

But yes, go and look at the death certificate online.

Thank you for your reply.
I have now viewed the record. Atleast I'm still on the correct line, I think a lot of other people have just taken for granted the hints on Ancestry and trees in common and never bothered to check the information properly.
