Where did she go
« on: Sunday 14 October 18 00:04 BST (UK) »
Looking in to my great uncles child. She was born Beryl O N 1920's Wandsworth, London to Mabel Howe and Thomas James Nichols. Some reason she is not on their 1939 record but in some sort of house, but then back with her mother and sister in Birmingham in the late 40s early 50s.
Her sister dies very young and her mother in 1961. Beryl marries a Iwan M (no birth record) they marry 1950's  Droitwich, Worcestershire, United Kingdom. They are both on a ship heading to Canada in 1950's... and that is where is stops, not sure what happened to her or her husband, if they had children etc. Any help would be grand please.

Hi

It looks like she came home when her mother died as she is on another passenger list docking in New York 17th January 1962 onboard the Queen Elizabeth.

Her address on the manifest was 2112 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC. So she was still in Canada.

There are some good overseas researchers on here that I'm sure will be able to help further.

Thanks Claire, hopefully someone can look further, I pay for ancestry but only for the UK records at the moment, hiking prices of children's school ware and C around the corner, hobbies take a back step :-)

Hi

Yes, it can be an expensive hobby :)

Did you get my message ? I think the lady in question is possibly still alive, well in 2017 she was.

On the outward passenger list 21 March 1957 both give the address of 90 Mildenhall Road, Birmingham. Does that match your records?
Iwan birth date is 12 -4-1924,( 12 April 1924).

From his name I expect he is Polish and fought with the Polish Free Forces WW11 and then could not go home after the war.

ADDED he says he is Stateless

Yes that is him, I found that record too, I wondered if they had any children in canada or if he changed his name as not anything for a Iwan.

Hi

If you google the name Iwan it’s Welsh variant is John , the Germanic and Slavic variant is Ivan - that’s  the biblical form of John.

I think I may have seen a John Mikoluk in the records

Thanks Claire, I had seen John too, but didn't know the meaning thank you. I will have to beg folks to look at the John records, as I don't have the overseas ancestry, I pay for the £12 monthly one, and have credits regally on scotlandspeople, Scottish family too.  :-)

Hi Taylor111

I've just checked the address in Vancouver that Beryl gave in the 1962 shipping manifest (2112 West 8th Avenue) to see who was living there in that years Voting List

MIKOLUK   John - a machinist
and Mrs Mikoluk - forename SHEILA

And another couple were there too.

In 1974 the couple were still in Vancouver at 3873 31st Avenue West, in the Voters list this time they were Mikoluk - Mr J (dyesetter) and Mrs B.

I've also spotted a record dated 17 Jan 2000 from the Daily Times Obituary Index for a John MIKULIK aged 85 died in Burnaby BC - which is just to the East of Vancouver. Looks promising.
