Stow-on-the-Wold WW1 memorial
« on: Sunday 14 October 18 20:24 BST (UK) »
Is there a site listing the names on the WW1 memorial?

Am particularly interested in knowing if Robert Charles Lupton is on the memorial.

Thank you.

I see that Robert was born in Stow but died in Palestine.

There appears to be some inconsistency between the Find My Past record and the CWGC record.

Find My Past have his name as Robert Charles Lupton, service no. 624966, born in Stow on the Wold and died in Palestine.  He enlisted in London.

CWCG have this:-

Lance Bombardier
LUPTON, R G
Service Number 624966

Died 19/10/1918

Honourable Artillery Company

attd. "B" Bty. 19th Bde.
Royal Horse Artillery

Buried at Damascus Commonwealth War Cemetery, Syria.

I don't know why the CWCG don't have his full names.

Thank you EVERYONE and apologies for my delayed response.  I will follow up on all these new leads.

Thanks Cathy - yes I think this is him; Oddington seems very close to Stow.

Assuming that I have found the right one, baptised at Westcote 2 May 1886.
Westcote is an even smaller settlement than Oddington and both in Stow registration district.

I know that I normally put the registration district as my PoB on documents and would guess that Mr Lupton may have done too.
