Newcastle/Durham apprenticeship records?
« on: Sunday 14 October 18 21:00 BST (UK) »
I've probably asked this before, but any suggestions welcome please :)
I am stuck with my 3 x G/grandfather (nothing strange about that I know) but I'm wondering if there is anyway to find his apprenticeship records.
I know he was a linen/wool draper. I have an idea of who his father may have been but really need something concrete that says John Newton, linen draper, son of ……??
.....
He married aged 24, presumably had finished his apprenticeship some years earlier. Married at St John Newcastle on Tyne on 18th August 1793

Not something I have ever looked for but the Durham Record Office have an information leaflet that seems to mention apprenticeship records (amongst a multitude of other things) http://www.rootschat.com/links/01mv0/

and Tyne and Wear Archives may have something for the Newcastle area in the Guild records which are mentioned in their user guides.
https://twarchives.org.uk/collection/user-guides-and-information

An email enquiry to either/both may result in them telling you how likely it is that they hold something relevant.
