help to find person
« on: Monday 15 October 18 21:17 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find evidence/records of a great aunt who traveled from Scotland to Ireland in the period 1912 to 1915. She stayed in Ireland for a few years (don't know where in Ireland!). I believe she had a child who tragically contracted diphtheria or meningitis and died as a teenager. She then possibly traveled back to Scotland. There is no family left to ask the whereabouts of this lady from ~1910 to 1950. Suggestions please  :)

Have you found her in Scotland in 1911 census? if not, the 1911 Irish census is online (free)-
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Ireland was part of the U.K. so there are no records kept of people traveling between Ireland and Scotland, England and Wales.

Was the child supposed to have been born in Ireland? If so, Irish birth certificates (1864-1916) are online (also free)- not just indexed but actual scnned images of the registers-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp
Once you have a name and date of birth for the child you can use the same site to search for a death certificate. For N.I. counties the online certificates go up to 1921- for later years you need to use GRONI- register and purchase a few credits to see the image.

Was the child born in Ireland?

Did child die in Ireland?

What is one supposed to be looking for in Ireland?

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

I didn't find any births or deaths for Ivy Phillips in any year in Ireland at https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/. Nor an Ivy Phillips on the 1911 Census of Ireland.

There were 247 Mary Phillips on the 1911 Census.

To my knowledge the child was born in Ireland and died in Ireland. Dob is unknown to me. I have just had a personal message on Roots for an Ivy Phillips being born in Ireland in 1912. I will have to follow this one up though it could be a year or two too early.

I am looking for anything that would show that the very vague information I have for Mary in her adult life (that was allowed to filter down the family) is in anyway correct, ie that she did travel to Ireland and there she had a child, Ivy? That child died around age 14 and then everything is blank, certainly till the mid 50's when I met her at her sister's house in Scotland.

Not her. Transcribed as Joy Phillips but birth registration is for Ivy Vera Phillips- parents Alfred Phillips & Frances Mary Boag
