Bemused
« on: Tuesday 16 October 18 15:46 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to find the deaths of two of my family and I am bemused as to why I cannot find anything past 1957.
I am looking for the registered deaths of Michaeline Christine Jensen [born 2 Aug 1888 - Denmark]. She became Wilkes when she married Henry Wilkes. Henry was born initially as Robinson in  Camberwell on 12 April 1879 - name changed at baptism to Wilkes. The couple have mostly lived at 171-175 [Flat 35] Queensgate SW7 [Knightsbridge Ward but most of the records stop at 1957. I am therefore presuming that they passed away shortly after this year.
I have tried all avenues - can anyone help please.
Much appreciated.

you post suggests you might only have been looking at the death entries on the direct GRO site which stop at 1957

have you tried freebmd or one of the subscription sites which go upto 2006?

Perhaps you mean that their electoral register entries seem to stop in 1957?  Not all are online, but I agree they are elusive after that.  Might they have emigrated?

The the GRO Online Index for deaths stops at 1957.

I know, and Dawn has said that, but it’s not clear whether Leith Lass is referring to that or to the couple’s London electoral roll entries, the last of which is in 1957.

Their neighbours at Alexandra Court, Queen’s Gate, SW7 also stop appearing after 1957 (though some reappear elsewhere) so it may be that 1957 is the cutoff for these Westminster records.

They do seem to be quite elusive, the only records I can find below. Sadly no death record which on some sites is up to 2006.

RAF   Henry Wilkes
mother   Sarah Wilkes
Birth   12/04/1879 Camberwell London
Military   18/12/1917

Henry Wilkes   Marriage 1921   Kensington   London   Michaeline C Jensen

No trace of any census but on 1939 register.

Both on electoral roll London and Westminster to 1953

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Hi All - thank you. Yes I was referring to the electoral register of 1957. Hence I anticipate their deaths to be after this year but I am unable to find anything further. I have tried all free sites and paid sites but unable to find their deaths. I wouldn't have thought that they would emigrate so late in their lives. I know that within the family they sometimes used the Robinson surname and other times the Wilkes and sometimes both. Very confusing.
Thank you all again your time is much appreciated. Frustrating as it is I will keep looking. x

It might be easier to track down 'Michaeline' or variant spellings as that is quite an unusual first name.
