Richard shelton
« on: Wednesday 17 October 18 16:10 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have a marriage certificate for a Ann Shelton who married a Henry Haddon in Sheffield
on 16th April 1848. I have Ann as being born in Lincolnshire or Nottinghamshire in approx 1826. The marriage certificate states her father is Richard Shelton.
Is anyone able to tell me Richard’s wife’s name. Or any further information.

Thanks Gill

Hi Gill,

Have you found Ann Shelton on the 1841? Who were the witnesses on the marriage cert as sometimes they can hold a clue?

JJ

Hi a possible baptism if born Nottinghamshire is:-

Anne Shelton 18th December 1825 Girton Father Richard occ Labourer Mother Hannah
Richard was a Labourer at the marriage of Ann.

I was just about to post similarly:-

Might be 18th October 1825 in Girton, Nottinghamshire, daughter of Richard and Hannah. Her birth on the 1851 census was 1826.

They also seem to have other children in North Scarle, Lincolnshire, which is less than two miles away.

Possibly one, Sarah, in East Markham, Notts, in 1819.

A Richard Shelton married Hannah Cook in East Markham on 31st May 1819.

David

Hi possibly the above post is the correct Richard/Hannah but I located births in North Clifton, East Markham and Tuxford?

Wondering if Richard remarried:-

1841 census

Richard Shelton 45 occ Ag Lab
Sarah 35
Mary 13
George 5
Miriam 3
Richard 11 months
Residing Tuxford
Census ref HO107/852/ 15/7 / 6

A Hannah Shelton was buried 8th January 1832 Tuxford aged 38
Possibly the Sarah Shelton b 1819 died aged 6 in Girton, and another Sarah was baptised 1831 Tuxford Father Richard Mother Hannah?

Richard Shelton Widowed residence Tuxford married in Laneham a Sarah Scott Spinster residence Laneham 16th December 1833 Witnesses John Shelton & Ann Walker

I have searched for Consby/cunsby but can’t seem to find the village. I presume it is in Nottinghamshire but could be in Lincolnshire. Does anyone know

Thanks

Gill

Not sure there's this https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LIN/Coningsby

"When searching old records, the name often appears with an extra "n", as in Conningsby.
It has even been shortened to Cunsby
Locals pronounce the name as "Cunningsby" or "Cunnsby".
