Looked for a Bowles connection a generation back with no luck;

This appears to be Samuels Parents;

Elizabeth HALLAM
Samuel RAYNER
Marriage   3 Oct 1772, St Mary, Nottingham

Sam jnr was Bapt 12 Sept 1775

Catherines Parents appear to be Thomas FROST/Sarah HEMPSELL who married 8 Dec 1763 Mansfield.

Several children born to them there and then a CATHERINE Bapt 02 Aug 1778 St Mary, Nottinghamshire

Thank you to all of those who replied to my post.

I don’t have the will so, I may have missing information in that area.

However, I have all of William’s census records, records of all of his children and their baptisms and records of both Samuel and Catherine’s parents.

But thank you all for confirming some of my research.

I will delve a little deeper and see if I can find some official records from the GRO where relevant.

My gut instinct is that William Bowles Raynor is not the one baptised 1806 Nottingham to Catherine Raynor, widow (illegitimate).  Two reasons - he consistently states he was born circa 1803 and he had a number of daughters none of whom were named after presumed mother Catherine or presumed sister Harriet.

It just doesn't gel to me.

Thanks Annette7,
I have the same issue, just a hunch that it just doesn’t quite match up.

Hi,

I'm just starting to research William Bowles Raynor and came across these interesting posts.  My tree is:

George Raynor  1902-2002 (my grandfather)
William Downing Raynor  1876-1961
Edwin Raynor  1847-1927
William Raynor  1826-1900
William Bowles Raynor  1802-1874

I know these posts are quite old now but I would be really keen to chat to anyone else who has also been looking for details on him.  I've found some interesting background information on his time in the police from a book called "Victorian Nottingham - Police courts and prisons".

Thanks,

Tim
