Ancestry banner - looks like you have local storage problems?
« on: Thursday 18 October 18 17:32 BST (UK) »
I get this banner every time I go to the viewer and sometimes when I just change a page. It recommends a fix it but that fix is to enable all cookies which I do not want to do.
I use Microsoft Edge and Windows 10. I have allowed the site in the privacy settings in the control panel.

It looks like you have local storage disabled. While you'll still be able to use the site, you may notice that pages load more slowly. Fix the issue

How can I rid myself of this troublesome beast!

Thank you

Hi

I believe that there were/are problems with Ancestry and Edge. Try using Chrome or Firefox to see if that fixes it.

Just tried Chrome and it's fine.

It seems fine in Edge too  :-\

Sorry, Sylvie, I'm not sure what's the problem. It would be worth trying another browser though, just in case.

I just ignore the message - there is nothing wrong with the speed of results from Ancestry.

Thank you all for your help -
The banner doesn't appear when using Firefox or if I allow all cookies but I don't really want to change browser at the moment. Meanwhile, it doesn't happen if I go to Ancestry via the search in Mackeiv FTM.
I wonder also if what it says is true? Very often I find that I cannot edit a search, I press the edit button and get a blank page up - is that because local storage is low, I wonder if the two are linked, neither used to happen.
I have emailed Ancestry to ask about the problem
Thanks again

I wonder whether it's a pop-up ad trying to lure you in, and not put there by Ancestry at all?  Stranger things have happened!

Wondering if you could put up a snip of the offending banner so that we could see what you are seeing.
