Granard Workhouse
« on: Friday 19 October 18 17:00 BST (UK) »
Looking for any help on why my great uncle Robert Heuston/Houston was in the Granard Workhouse.
Formerly of Drumdreg, Balinalee, Co Longford.
Would there have been an infirmary there also?
Died 1916.
Is there any free access to the  poorlaw records please.
Thank you.

Yes, the Workhouse hospital was used by a great number of people.
He may not have been in the Workhouse itself.

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Thank you I would think he may have been in the infirmary and not under the poor law union.

Yes I do have all the information you supplied, but thank you.
So would you  think he was actually in the workhouse or the infirmary?.... I now would say the infirmary.
Prior to his death I believe he  lived at home in Drumdreg. Although July 1916 less than 2 months before his own death his father passed away at home.
