As you can imagine men wore clothes like these over a long period. I would suggest it could be any time from around the 1870's to 1890's.
Strange but I thought Funeral Directors buried the dead further away. Maybe they were running out of space at the Church.

I sincerely doubt it's for burying a body, more likely plumbing or digging a channel for a rock walkway.
