Panns area as indicated on the Internet.

Panns was an area of Sunderland on the south bank of the river at the top of Low St. which had once been used for salt panning. Just to the east of the road bridge. In the 1700s, this stretch of bank was home for block yards, glass works & Molly Linton's Quay from which Pann's ferry ran across to the north bank.

Great news, thanks for letting us know.
John Hawkey born Monkwearmouth, and in 1861 it says that Mary, daughter of William + Mary, was born in Slaley.
The clues were there!
John

William is my 3gt grandfather. I haven’t found him on the 1841 census either!

Father John Hawkey, mother Margaret Cook. They married Tynemouth 1823 - he was a widower at that stage but I can’t find first marriage. They are in 1841 census in Slaley where he was a hawker of wares. John was the posthumous son of Thomas Hawkey, a keelman, and Mary Foster.

Mary Whitehead is the daughter Of Robert Whitehead and Margaret Taylor.

My ancestor is William and Mary’s daughter Mary who married Robert Wood producing my gt grandmother Margaret Ann Wood.

Sorry I’ve only just seen this I could have saved you the cost of the mc!
