Stumped looking for people in 1911 - ideas welcome
« on: Saturday 20 October 18 19:11 BST (UK) »
Evening all, I need to pick your brains if I may  :)

I have the following family in 1901, living in Whitley Street, Manchester
Frederick Boulton  Head  Married  Age 29 born 1872
Elizabeth Boulton  Wife  Married  Age 27 born 1874
Harry Boulton   Son, Age 7 born 1894
George Boulton  Son, Age 5 born 1896

Frederick's birthplace is given as Australia, which I can tell you is nonsense! He was born in Gloucestershire. The others were born in Manchester.

Now I cannot for the life of me find them in 1911, and need some fresh eyes or ideas.
- I believe Frederick died in 1909, so he can be ignored for the purpose of this. The others should be there though.
- I have no reason to believe they moved away...I have references to George in Manchester up to the 1920s.
- Harry was actually William Henry
- I've tried various spelling variations in case of mistranscription without any joy.

Any suggestions please?
Name interests: Boulton, Murrell, Lock, Croxton, Skinner, Blewett, Tonkin, Trathen.

Hi

1909 he died?

What was the address on his death certificate?

I assume you are referring to:

Frederick Boulton - Prestwich Registration District - March q 1909 - aged 37

I believe that's Frederick, yes.
He was in an institution when he died.

Having looked at both his and his brothers birth registrations on the GRO site, its quite possible that their mother's maiden name was Wood.

A possible entry in 1911 (free to search on Family Search) for William Henry (billed as William H T Boulton as the nephew of a widow called Susannah Burns.

Looking back to the 1901 census  for that Susannah Burns, (born c1856, Manchester) there is a likely Susannah Burns, widow , living with her mother Agnes Wood

If that fits with what you know, then I think its worth you having a look at the images and putting it in the 'possibles' category?

Did you look under her maiden name after the husband died. I had an ancestor who similarly disappeared in 1901 along with his children. I found them all having reverted to using the maiden name of his wife who had died.

Thank you both.
I had wondered if Elizabeth had remarried between 1909 and 1911 and they were all listed under whatever her new name would be. Though I hadn't considered her maiden name.

Boo, that's certainly one I'll look into.
Bit confused with William's extra initial, but most promising lead so far!

Do you have Frederick and Elizabeth's marriage? (registration or record)
