McMahons in Ealing
« on: Monday 22 October 18 22:23 BST (UK) »
My nan was born 1954 in Ealing to James McMahon and Rose Jennings (but used Saunders from first marriage). My nans brother was born 1951 in Ealing too. I can find James and Rose on electoral rolls in Acton from 1949 to 1957. Rose went by Rose McMahon from 1952, but I'm not sure they never actually married due to not being able to find any evidence anywhere.
I know my great nans (Rose) history and her family from her first marriage. But my nan never knew her biological dad (James) so she has 0 information on him. She actually only knew him by Jerry and that he was Irish, I only found out his birth name from ordering my nans birth certificate, which also has his profession down as an electroplater.
My question is, how do I find out about James before and after he was with Rose? As I only have him on electoral rolls, I'm not even sure I can, but I am fairly new to this!

Are any of the people you mention still living, if so you should remove their names

James might have served in WW2 (though with a name like James McMahon it might be difficult to find the right James) so that may be an avenue to follow at some time.

Where have you searched so far for a marriage between James and Rose? Do you know whereabouts and what year Rose was born?

According to your Nan's birth certificate, did James have a middle name?

No other names are stated on my nans birth certificate and she only knows he went by Jerry.
I have trawled through all marriages between 1949(last known as Saunders) and 1954(when I know Rose used McMahon by). I do know she went back to Saunders after being with James too as my mum recalls her being Saunders.
Rose was born in Yorkshire 1916, mums maiden name Utley. Rose, her siblings and parents moved to London in the 1920s.

I am intigued a bit by this death and its proximity to the last entry on electoral registers  ???

Deaths Jun qtr 1958
James J McMAHON   age    67
Ealing reg district    5e   142

I don't have access to electoral registers for this period, is there another entry that could have been this James.

I spoke to my mum about this today - she told me my nan spoke of living at Phelps Way in Hayes, Middlesex with James and Rose. I can only see up to 1964 for Phelps Way so he must of lived beyond 1958!

Can you see James living at Phelps Way then as you previously said your Nan did not know him.
