Catherine W Foy, who sailed from Liverpool
« on: Monday 22 October 18 20:47 BST (UK) »
I am looking for info on my grandmother, Catherine W Foy, who sailed from Liverpool, England on July 27, 1911, on the SS Tunisian, bound for Quebec City, Quebec, arriving on Aug 3,  final destination Ottawa.  She was a British Homechild. I am trying to find the "Orphange " home where she was before she sailed. I'm quite sure it was in the Birmingham area, perhaps Coleshill,  run by the Catholic Immigration Soceity. Stated age on the passenger list was 16, therefore B 1895. She had 1 brother that we know of, who immigrated to Canada the following year, 1912. She always claimed to be Irish, but so far, we've had no luck proving that. Do have a Catherine Foy born in Birmingham, however, with the right details. Any assistance in tracking down these :orphanges" would be appreciated.

Hi  lassiesue and welcome to rootschat

If you want to ask a question you need to do it from here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/beginners/ and clicking the blue button which says "new topic" where you can ask your own question and it will be answered, rather than  hijack someone elses question. That way other people on rootchat see it as a separate question and not an answer to Genieinthefamily question

The Birmingham Diocesan Rescue Society for the Protection of Homeless and Friendless Catholic Children was founded in 1902 and administered by Father George Hudson. The homes in Birmingham and Coleshill became known as Father Hudson's Homes. Lots of info on www.bac-lac.gc.ca

IF Catherine Foy was Irish - there is a possible marriage to bear in mind - Catherine Foy born 1894 Ireland married Sudbury Ontario to Lawrence George Cashmore - 1 December 1916.
Parents listed as Thomas Foy and mother Agnes Loftus.

The 1921 Canadian Census is telling us she immigrated in 1912 -

Nipissing Sudbury Ontario 1921

Lawrence Cashmore   23
Catharine Cashmore   24 born Ireland. Imm 1912.
George Cashmore   3
Dorothy Cashmore   4 months.

Just to add that the record confirms that she had arrived on the Tunisian.
