the only other thing I can think of is when your PC is alive again is to get office copies of the title from the Land Registry?  I think they are only £3 for the title register and £3 for the title plan that might possibly give you some history of the actual ground?

There is certainly what appears to be a well in the garden.

Yes, it definitely IS a well.

Time to 'fess up...
I know the person who is looking to buy the property and would like to surprise her with some of its history.

Hi,
If you are the person trying to find out about Forge Cottage, Linga Lane Bassingham.
I bought this cottage in 1978. It was indeed a Blacksmihs at some point. It is side ways on to Linga Lane with 4 diamond shaped leaded windows. We only lived here for a year. It is a was a lovely cottage.

Indeed I am!
Yes!

We've been here just over four years now and I've managed to dig up quite a bit about the place.
I've used the census returns but it's been impossible to make positive identifications because there are no house numbers, and Linga Lane itself is only mentioned on a couple of censuses.

But I have found a postcard from 1908 showing the cottage AND THE FORGE!!
I never ever thought that this was going to be possible.
But here it is...

Compare it to nowadays...

As you can see, a LOT has changed!

I have been busy building a website about the history of the village using old postcards - you can visit that here -> https://bassinghambackthen.wordpress.com/

You'll find sections about the streets, some of the people and also certain buildings, including all that I have discovered about "Forge Cottage".

I will also private message you for more personal details.

Thanks for the contact - here's hoping that I can discover yet more about this intriguing property! 😀👍👍👍
