RAF WWl
« on: Wednesday 24 October 18 17:27 BST (UK) »
Good Morning
I have recently found out that my great grand father Arthur Parkinson served in the RAF towards the end of WW1 he signed up August 10 1918 his service number was 284316 and reference number is  AIR 79/2476/284316. The national archives told me that the records have been digitized and are available through FindmyPast. Unfortunately i do not have access to this site. Could someone with access help me out. I would be interested in some details. I do not believe he was in the service long as the war was coming to a close and he had already started a family

Are you sure he wasn't transferred from the RFC to the RAF?
I notice an A. Parkinson 1757 RFC I/Air mechanic.

He was transferred to RAF reserves G 3/4/19 DRO 173 (? SOME MARK ABOVE 3)
HE WAS DISCHARGED 30/4/20

Service record gives details of date and place of marriage and dates of birth of 2 daughters, physical description and details of movement (between units), which included AMH (which I think might be Auxiliary Military Hospital or hostel ? on 5/9/18, where he went from RD. Went from AMH to DEt pay hostel 31588 on 1/1/19, then from Det pay hostel to Feltham 13/1/19 41755, then from Feltham to Heaton Park  5/3/19  81790. There are a few letters I don't understand amongst the list. He was a pattern cutter by trade and Roman Catholic.
