110217 Driver Robert Albert North

Royal Field Artillery, ‘A’ Battery, 113th Brigade
Son of George and Hannah North; husband of Mary Ann North, of Chiswick, Middlesex.

Robert and Mary married in 1901 and had at least 10 children, not all of  whom survived into adulthood. Their second oldest child, Robert William North was lost at sea in 1943.

In civilian life Robert was a Carman, driving a horse-drawn vehicle for transporting goods and then after enlisting in the army in Chiswick Town Hall he became a Driver of horse-drawn field guns.

Between the 28 September and 11 November 1918, was the Final Advance in Flanders when the British Second Army with the Belgian Army finally broke out of the Ypres Salient.
 
Driver R. North was killed in action and is buried in Harlebeke New British Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
