The two chevrons show he was a Corporal, although at the time his photo was taken he was only Lance Corporal. The shoulder flash, bottom right hand shows he was in the Royal Army Service Corps.

Going by the hat in the small photograph in the top Rt. cornerI would say Second World War.

The second medal is a North African Star and I think the clasp is " North Africa 1942-43"

The green medal is the Defence Medal, awarded to personnel who served in UK - I e Home Guard or similar homeland security services.

The first medal is the 1939- 1945 Star for service during the Second World War.

The fourth medal is the War Medal 1939-1945.

The fifth medal is the Coronation Medal awarded for participation in the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1953.

I'm not very knowledgable on these matters , but given the RASC badge in the picture , is it not the Royal Army Service Corps ?
