George Rose(b.Gateshead 1877)
« on: Thursday 25 October 18 22:56 BST (UK) »
Hi folk's,once again your help would be appreciated,my wife's Gt Grandfather was George Rose
born around 1877 in Gateshead I have not been able to find any information at all apart from the 1911 cencus which find's him in Hamsterly Colliery with wife Margaret, stepson Thomas Douthwaite
and own two son's (James was my wife's Grandfather),no other cencus can I find him in(the 1911
cencus has Felling on Tyne as birthplace). He died on active service after a period in France in India
in 1916 with the Northumberland Fusilier's.There are very few George Rose's in the region for the
year's 1881 to 1901 and none I can pin down.
TIA Steve.

Have you got his 1907 marriage cert?  Any father shown?

If you only have him on the 1911 census which shows his birthplace as Felling - where did you get his birthplace as Gateshead from?

1911 shows birthyear as 1874 not 1877

Freebmd has a Gateshead birth in 1874 plus a couple of others 1876 - 1878 but without knowing who his father was it’s difficult to pinpoint the right one

Don't think it's that one Jamjar George Lashley Rose died 1910 Gateshead

There is a George Rose 1876 Durham mother's maiden name Harmer  ?

Think the best thing would be to get a copy of his marriage to see if father mentioned

Can see his death 29 June 1916 Uk Soldiers died in the great war has his birth place as
Gateshead -on - Tyne

Don't see any army records

Rosie

Yes, I just added Elizabeth 1911 and she’s a widow.

So, that lot is discounted.  ;D

His birth not registered in Gateshead then.  ;)

ROSE, GEORGE mmn HARMER

I can’t see a marriage or other children born around that time with that surname combination.

Here’s a 1901 with a George as a coal miner, as he was in 1911:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XSC2-YDH

He’s married to an Ellen, with child Mary E.

Marriages Mar 1897 Easington 10a 582
ROSE George
ASHFORD Ellen

ROSE, MARY  ELIZA mmn ASHFORD
GRO Reference: 1897  S Quarter in EASINGTON  Volume 10A  Page 449

Ok, that’s out, as they are on the 1911: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWHQ-42R

Thank's folk's,it was soldiers died that initially gave me his birthplace once the 1911 cencus came out
I was able to pin it down to Felling,I did find a George rose boarder living in Heworth at 31 Willington street
I think in the 1901 cencus but which site it was one I now cant find strange as it was the only site that
has my GT Grandmother Sarah Ellen Wayman who was a wardmistress in a Newcastle childrens hospital
aged 15,it's not ancestry I was on FindMyPast for a while though.one thing my wife's Grandmother (James wife)
used to say was that George's Father came from Russia I often wonder if his name was shortened
from Rosenberg or some similar possibly Jewish name?He did marry quite late and there is a possibility
due to the little we know of his army service he may have spent time pre-war in the army.
