Parish Marriage Record - Flinn & Sandford
« on: Friday 26 October 18 06:13 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I'd swear I'd located a parish record (thought it was on Lancashire OPC) for the marriage of Bernard Flinn/Flynn and Sara (h) Sandford in W. Derby in 1876 some time ago but cannot locate it now. I'm trying to determine names of parents. Can anyone help?

Thanks so much,
Brenda

Hi again,

Quick question. I found a parish record in Ireland I was convinced was her but the father on the record is listed as John. As the marriage was written in Latin do you the transcriber noted: "brides father Joseph or Jacob?", do you think it could have been John instead? Or is that just wishful thinking?

Thanks,
Brenda

The marriage record found by Cass definitely and clearly gives her father's name as Jacobi.

If it was John it would be Johannis or similar!!
Where did you see her baptism record please?

Sorry -- meant to say that Jacobi sometimes means James as far as I know (as well as Jacob).

1911 for family on familysearch suggests Sarah was b County Sligo c1853

Rechecked marriage and it does look like Jacobi, so possibly as suggested James was father? There is a firstborn son called James for couple.

Found the baptism you mean -- but found it on Ancestry -- that was Sarah Ann Sandford and father definitely John.

Does an 1855 birth tally with her age on census records by any chance? Not that their age on census records can be relied upon!
