Sinnott the Shoemaker?
« on: Friday 26 October 18 17:52 BST (UK) »
I apologise if this has been done to death already..... :-*
I'm looking for anything on my paternal grandfather and family living in Wexford (don't know where) around 1900/1920/1940 I know.... not very specific.  :-\

James or John Sinnott (born 1944) came to London in the 1960's, that's my father (although he may not know that) so I was looking very much from a distance at his people. He is listed by his son as a shoemaker that's all I have.

Any sort of history, help or guidance for this newby would be very much appreciated.  :D

Religion?
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

The latest available census is 1911 which can be searched here-
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Scanned images of births (1864-1916) are online here-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp

Both sites are free. However, your grandfather could have been born after 1911 or even 1916 so it may not be easy to find details online.

Just remember that we aren't allowed to post details of anyone who might still be living- which could include your father or even grandfather based on the information in your first post.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

It is unclear who you are referring to when you say "he" was a shoemaker: your father, or grandfather?

Shoe making was a declining profession in the 20th century. I think it highly unlikely that there were "new entrants." Rather, this would be handed down in a family. A search of the 1911 census shows only two Sinnott families who were shoemakers. One in New Ross, one in Enniscorthy.
The one in Enniscorthy looks to be a good match for you.

Very confusing
are you looking for an Unknown Sinnott, a shoemaker in Wexford
who had a son John or James born in 1944?
