Louie BOOTH. Marriage /emigration look-up
« on: Saturday 27 October 18 13:58 BST (UK) »
Louie was the daughter of John Booth and Jane (Jackson) Booth. She was born in Middleton , Lancashire , 1872 ? ( according to the Censuses 1881 and 1891, Glossop Dale ,she was 9 and 19.)

She emigrated to the USA , I don't know when nor if she married in England or in the USA.

In 1938, after the death of her sister in law Ellen Ann , she is in the list of the mourners : "Louie, Amos and family (USA)". I presume Amos is the husband.

She was my mother's great aunt .

Thank you for your help.

There is this marriage :

Louie Booth and Richard Alty Chorlton Oct 1894 Oldham

1901 census

Richard Alty Charlton 32
Louise Charlton 28
Earey Alty Charlton  4 this should be Percy I believe
Thomas Alty Charlton 27

RG13; Piece: 3615; Folio: 40; Page: 23

Louie and Percy emigrated in 1902 , arriving Boston 19 June on SS Ivernia.

1920 US census

I think I would like to see the marriage certificate to confirm this is the right Louie Booth.

You might need to purchase the marriage certificate - "Oldham Register Office or Registrar Attended".

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

The name "Amos" just throws me.

Who was Ellen Ann married to and where did you find the obit?

Best,
Maureen

Just to add to Christine53's find of the 1920 census entry, this is the 1910 entry

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MLZX-7SZ

When you look at the image, look at the top of the screen.  There is a photograph of Richard, and someone says he died 1928.  It might not be the same person as this one is said to have been born 1868!!

Ellen Ann SIMPSON married James William BOOTH 12d July 1893  in Glossop, and died ,27th october 1938, widow, in Bexley , Kent,  where one of her daughters lived (Velma TWYFORD), she is buried in New Mills , in the cemetry  of St Georges's road.

I have a copy of the article published after the burial but cannot say for sure from which newspaper ( presumably The Reporter). I did not find it myself , it was sent to me years ago by a researcher in New Mills. Amos may be a second husband ?
