Help to identify wife of John Bannister b.1797
« on: Saturday 27 October 18 16:44 BST (UK) »
Hi, I hope someone can help. My 4 x great-grandfather was John Bannister, b.1797-1879 in Seaford, and according to the censuses lived in Splayne's Green/Fletching all his life. From the 1841 census he was married to Jane, and a widow by 1851. Jane is listed as aged 35 in 1841, so presumably was born between 1802-06, however, I've not been able to identify her maiden name so if anyone was able to help name her I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks for any help.
Best wishes,
Jon.

Did they have a child on or after 1 July 1837?  If so the birth registration should give you Jane’s maiden name.

there is a tree on A******y which gives name of spouse as Jane Langridge - date of marriage 1819? so I assume the question mark means it is a guess

Any guesswork may be based on the eldest of the children in the family in 1841 (Caroline) having been baptised at Fletching on 2 April 1820, daughter of John & Jane.

Hi AVM and Suz, thanks so much that's really helpful. According to info I have their first child, Woodhurst was born and died in 1817 and their last child was born in 1849 just before she died. I guess she may have died from childbirth complications but I don't have the death certificate to confirm this

Really helpful to have her maiden name 😀

Thanks again,
Jon

Sorry, should have added that in my tree there is a John Bannister b.1841 which would also help corroborate the right family.

Bw, Jon
