William Henry Coles
« on: Saturday 27 October 18 17:37 BST (UK) »
My g-grandfather William Henry Coles born 29 March 1853 died 25 February 1933.

I have various documents confirming these dates e.g. family bible and navy records but the GRO do not have birth details in their index. I had hoped to find his mother's maiden name by purchasing the certificate.

I have found his death certificate.

Any ideas?

Yes Rosie I have asked before ; sorry.  I'm still struggling to find the correct paper trial.
I'm waiting for certificates from the GRO and will try to work it out.
Thank you for all your help everyone it is much appreciated.
William Henry Coles was born in Teignmouth Devon. I think his mother was Mary Ann Maynard but not sure.
Thank you again. Jenny.

In 1861 William Henry Coles lived with his parents at 14 Brook Street West Teignmouth Devon. His father John was a carpenter.
William was eight years old.

Found him!!!! I put his brothers Charles Edward and William Albert and sister Elizabeth Ann names in the GRO. I knew the Volume 05B covers Newton Abbot so I put that in as well.
They all came up  with the surname COLLES mis-spelt form of Coles.
Mother's maiden name was similar for each sibling either MAYNARD AND MAYNEARD,
A brick wall knocked down; thank you for your help. Jenny.

William Henry Coles surname was spelt in several different ways on documents ; Colles and Calls.
I have now discovered that he and his brother John married two sisters Francis Langdon and Alice Langdon.
John's name was spelt differently on all the census and birth records of his children. His probate confirmed he was who I believed as he left money to his brother-in-law.
This brick wall has taken me years to solve!!!! Thank you for putting me on the correct path.
