Which Regiments were located in Huntingdonshire in 1800-1810?
« on: Sunday 28 October 18 01:24 GMT (UK) »
I've just discovered that it is possible that one of my ancestors:
 1. Could have been in the British Army and
 2. Could have been stationed in Huntingdonshire in/around Yaxley during the period 1800-1810

Is there any way to determine which Regiments were located in that area during that period of time?

Living in Australia, it is a bit hard to pop into Kew to browse the WOs!!!!

Thanks!

A quick trawl through the newspapers of the period on Findmypast (you could get a short sub?) suggests that Yaxley barracks was guarded by various regiments of militia (part timers).  In 104 articles I found only one regular army regiment mentioned, 3rd Dragoons, although others are mentioned as escorting prisoners to the camp.

Whether the papers which have been highlighted on your other thread would have clues to the regiments - don't know.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
