Sturry or Dover?
« on: Monday 29 October 18 13:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I have found some baptism and burial records appearing in both Sturry and Dover with the same dates, for example:

Edward Rammell son John bap 13 Aug 1704 Sturry and
Edward Rammell son John bap 13 Aug 1704 Dover.

Grace Rammell dau John bap 20 Oct 1700 Sturry and
Grace Rammell dau John bap 20 Oct 1700 Dover.

These records were all found in Ancestry & FindMyPast. A digital copy of the baptisms was only available for Sturry in FindMyPast so I am assuming that the baptisms actually all took place in Sturry, but why are they listed again in Dover??

Any ideas?

Best regards

Gillian

Hi Gillian,

Ancestry may have been taken the information from  a Family Search film, When the LDS filmed the Registers if there was space left on a film after filming one register they would often use up the remaining film on another register.  This  sometimes  resulted in confusion as to which parish an event took place, so they were sometimes indexed  in two parishes.

I discovered this years ago when trawling through films at an LDS centre.
CHOULES All ,  COKER Harwich Essex & Rochester Kent
COLE Gt. Oakley, & Lt. Oakley, Essex.
DUNCAN Kent
EVERITT Colchester,  Dovercourt & Harwich Essex
GULLIVER/GULLOFER Fifehead Magdalen Dorset
HORSCROFT Kent.
KING Sturminster Newton, Dorset. MONK Odiham Ham.
SCOTT Wrabness, Essex
WILKINS Stour Provost, Dorset.
WICKHAM All in North Essex.
WICKHAM Medway Towns, Kent from 1880
WICKHAM, Ipswich, Suffolk.
