The bounder!
« on: Monday 29 October 18 15:40 GMT (UK) »
I have just received a copy of a bond of guardianship in which my 7x great uncle is named the legal guardian of his niece.

In it, he is referred to as "the bounder". At first I was confused as to what the person writing the document held against him, before realizing this is likely a way of noting that the he has been "bounded" by the "bond" in question.

Others may have different ideas, but I would read it that the niece was the bounded and he was the bounder.

That seems the most likely explanation.

Funny though, makes you think of a Nancy Mitford character. “The Bolter”
