ELIZA HODGES,(nee Terry),born 1819,Hucknall Torkard.

Eliza Terry married William Hodges in 1840 in Basford District.William was born in 1818 in Hucknall Torkard.
In the 1841 Census they lived in Hucknal Torkard.
In the 1891 Census Eliza was a widow living in Nottingham,and in 1901 she was in the Bulwell Workhouse.She died in 1902 in Nottingham.
I have found two records of the death of a William Hodges,both Basford,one in 1846 and one in 1884.
I cannot find either in any of the Censuses of 1851,1861,1871,1881.
Can anyone help please?

Do you know how old the one in 1884 was?  He may have been a little lad who wouldn't have been on a census.

Did they have any children?

The one in 1846 was 59 so too old to be your William if he was born 1818.

The 1884 death was 66 so age is right but appreciate this hasn't yet helped find him on census.

There's one with a wife Mary in census.

The William who died 1884 was survived by wife Mary.  He was a framework knitter.

Have you coincided that the Eliza Hodges you have dying in 1902 and on the 1891 and 1901 census is not the wife of William but is the wife of a Morris/ Morrison Hodges, and that the Eliza Hodges nee Terry died in 1842 Basford dis aged 23yrs:

And then William Hodges married Mary Spray in Hucknall Torkard 5 Apr 1844 and is on census from 1851 to 1881 with Mary

Yes I wondered about that death for Eliza and a remarriage for William to a Mary.  It all seems to fit.

As far as I can see there was only 1 William Hodges born abt 1818 in Hucknall, I'll check both of his marriage's to see if it's the same one next time I'm in Nottingham Archives but I think it is and will have a look for Eliza's burial too.
Will wait and see what gracol think when he/she get's back to us.

Very many thanks for your replies.
I searched Ancestry & Familysearch ,which do not give ages for Williams death in 1846,or Elizas death in 1842.
I'm afraid I jumped to the wrong conclusions re Eliza in the 1891 & 1901 censuses and her 1902 death ,not good enough!
Would be interested nottsgirl in the further information from the Archives,thanks for the look-up offer.
Very satisfying when these puzzles are solved.

I've been into the archives to day and got the two marriages of William Hodges first to Eliza Terry 1840 and then to Mary Spray 1844 it was the same William on both, also got the marriage of Samuel Terry 1817 if you what the copies please pm me your email address and I'll send them to you.

Now death of Eliza Hodges nee Terry 1842 I found a newspaper: Nottingham Review and General Advertiser dated Friday 15th July 1842 in the death column:

At Hucknall Torkard on Monday of comsumption aged 23yrs Eliza wife of Mr Wm Hodges.

I cannot find a burial for her any where.
