Good grief - I'm exhausted through reading that service record!!

Seems to have some elements of truth and I don't know how he would manage to remember even half of it.

Very interesting.  Goodness knows what happened to him afterwards although he seems to have an address in Victoria if I remember correctly (can't cope with re-reading  ::) )

wow, what a can of worms I seem to have opened. I haven't read all the links yet but can't wait to get to them.
The document I have is the marriage cert mentioned by mathewj64. A bigamous marriage to Jessie Gorman. At the time Jessie was married to my grandad, who was in the Merchant Navy but away on a voyage. When he came back he found Jessie had 'married' James Bell and had an illegitamate child. My grandad 'remarried' my grandma, bigamously as it happened. Couple of years later both he and Jessie got 3 months in prison for bigamy. Jessie seems to have been quite a character from what I know of her so far, so the story doesn't end there. I did find a clue to the name Kyle, but didn't make sense at time.
Needless to say my grandma never forgave grandad, although she spent the rest of her life with him.
