James BELL, b1898 Queensland?
« on: Tuesday 30 October 18 09:29 GMT (UK) »
Looking for info on James BELL, b 1898 possibly Queensland. Gave his parents as John Bell, painter/Jane Bell (Stewart). James served with the 15th Batt Australian Imperial Force and was in Scotland around 1918. Would love to trace his movements to complete my research on extended family.

cheers in advance

No service number mentioned in document I have, just 'Electrical Engineer, Private, 15th Batt, AIF'.  On the Scottish doc I have dated 1918, gives age as 20, he gives his usual address as Queensland (presently at Sutton Very, England). Possibly the location of his regiment before he came to Scotland?

Re the Scottish document, can you give a date in 1918 and the document's title and purpose please.  Privates in the AIF were allocated service numbers.  They were all volunteers.   In 1918 they were usually in France.  Here's some live links to help... including some possible sightings of files for a Private J BELL, 7671.   :)   You may need to send email to NAA to ask for information about the reasons for the empty files ... possibly he enlisted for 2nd AIF - WWII.

There are files, withheld or not yet digitised, are indexed  at the National Archives of Australia and they MAY (and of course MAY NOT) be for your chap...   https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/SearchScreens/BasicSearch.aspx

Very useful information re the Sutton Veny camp :) The Mr A Fisher, High Commissioner, mentioned in the cutting was previously the Prime Minister of Australia (and a Queenslander !).

Probate notice for Jane Stewart Kyle, mentions another son Thomas Stewart Kyle, second column:

I can’t see her death on QLDBDM, or burial in Brisbane
