James Ackland - who were parents???

Oh dear

have now found a Martha Slack born 1877, Ashbourne, Middleton, Derbyshire  Bapt 15 Oct, Father Henry and Mo Norah Ann Leach.   However cannot now find this Martha - not to be confused with dau of William Slack and Sarah Fearn born 1875 Dec Q. 

However no trace of Martha after 1877

Henry SLACK was buried 30 Jan 1878 age 42

So a close one as to whether Henry Slack or William Ackland is the Father of William Henry 2 Oct 1878.

I see Marthas Bapt on FreeREG but cant find a Birth Reg?

many thanks for your reply.    Henry died 28 January.    Inquest was held into his death.    Nothing untoward - asked for a glass of milk and keeled over.    Unfortunately inquest report did not mention his wifes name.   

Marthas birth reg is Ashbourne vol 7B page 613.    FindMyPast shows her MMN as Leach.

I did notice Trees dont have the 1871 Census for Norah.

thanks again - the 1871 census = I alsothink that is her as Mary Jane was born 1854.

You certainly have put a spanner in the works.   I cannot as yet see a marriage for Ownsworth/Leach and indeed his surname is not very common.    The birth place certainly fits.

The only James Ownsworth I can find that may be the culprit was born c 1834 Dodsworth, Yorkshire.

Yes she may have been very vulnerable.

The only ref I can find for James Roger Ownsworth is that birth reg.

Maybe someone on the Cumberland Board could look up that christening for you to see what James Snrs Occp is
