What happened to Ann Price?
« on: Tuesday 30 October 18 12:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to find out what happened to Ann(e) Price born around 1847 on her grandmother’s (Catherine Owen) farm Bryllangedwydd, Abererch. Her mother was also called Anne Price nee Owen who died in 1849.
In the 1851 Census, HO107/2513/131/14, Ann aged 3 and her brother Robert aged 4 are lodging with a pauper/tailor’s family at Penybont a cottage adjacent to Brynllangedwydd. Their father, Richard Price, is a visitor. Robert died the following year.
In the 1861 Census RG9/4326/65/1, Ann aged 13 is living with her great uncle, Ellis Owen, on his farm Cefnymeusydd isaf, Ynyscynhairn. I have been unable to find her after this point.

I would be grateful for any help.

Could this be her in 1861 as niece to an Ellis Owen.

Born Aberech

There are 3 possible civil marriages (no parish ones) in Caernarfonshire in the 1860s/1870:

Bangor, Q3, 1870

Caernarvon, Q3, 1866

Pwllheli, Q1, 1868

This family could be listed in T Ceiri Griffith's book "ACHAU RHAI O DEULUOEDD HEN SIROEDD CAERNARFON, MEIRIONNYDD A THREFALDWYN".

I have a copy at home and will look tonight.  I know that Cefn Meusydd is listed and I believe that there is an Owen connection there.

No obvious deaths showing 1866 +/- 5

Nothing that jumps out on the emigration listings but she could have married and then emigrated  :-\

Thank you Gadget. Using Findmypast's Marriage Finder I have looked into the 1871 Census using the combination of possible spouses, Ann's age and her birthplace Abererch with no luck. I may try 1881 i in case there any mistakes in 1871 Census.
Nesta you are correct the family does appear in Ceiri Griffiths' book of family trees in tree [25], top left hand corner, although there is a printer's error. Catherine should be connected to the Owen Ellis tree not her husband Thomas Owen, Bryllangewydd.
Just in passing my avatar is photograph from the 1860's of Ellis Owen. I chose it because among other things he was interested in was genealogy. http://yba.llgc.org.uk/en/s-OWEN-ELL-1789.html

Just on the off chance ~

would Ellis Owen have left a will that she might, just might, have been named in.

Yes Gadget he did leave a will which was probated  23 Jun 1868. The farm was inherited by the other great niece, his housekeeper, Ann Thomas who was quickly married by the local rector a couple of months after Ellis died. I will have to decide whether I feel it worth £10 to see the will although it might be interesting to see who else is mentioned in it.

I bit the bullet on Saturday and ordered Ellis Owen's will where Anne is mentioned.  She is referred to as Anne Price of Llangybi, which I assume means she lived in Llangybi in 1867 when the will was written.
The will also mentions a brother Thomas Price, who I was not aware of. He was born in Abererch in 1844. In the 1861 Census he was the carter on Ellis Owen's farm Cefnymeusydd isaf. Once again I cannot find him in the 1871 Census.
