Dalbet convent
« on: Tuesday 30 October 18 23:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am tracing my father’s biological family and am trying to find any information on his aunt Annie Davin who was placed in Dalbeth Convent in 1928. She had a child that was taken away from her. We think it was a son. Then she was placed in the Stirling District Asylum.

Do you know approx. where Ann(ie) was born & when?

I'm assuming the reason for being sent to the convent was for the birth of her child when she was aged approx. 25 yrs old?

If so, the closest I can find for a birth is;

DAVIN ANN 1903
494/2 96 Renton (Dunbarton)

That birth would tie in with this death;

DAVIN ANNIE 81 (also registered as Ann)
CAIRNEY (mmn)
1984
483/ 215 Larbert (Stirling)

There's only 1 birth in the whole of Scotland 1928 - 1929 with surname Davin which is female but born Renton where Ann was born?

There's another female born 1923 Renton with the middle name of Ann's mmn.
Another female born 1926 Renton.

There's a boy born 1924 Bonhill (Dunbarton)

I'm unable to post details of the above as RC policy doesn't allow naming of living/possibly living people.

Kettering, Northampton:- MacKinnon

Canada:- Callaghan, Cumming, MacPhee

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

Yes this is Annie (Ann Davin). She was pregnant when she was at the convent. I am trying to find out the name of the child. If he or she is still alive or has living relatives etc. A distant relative said their was a boy but no one seems to really know why Annie was institutionalised and what happened to the baby. She remained there until her death in 1984.

Thanks

Do you know if Ann(ie) had only 1 child?

Do you know if she had siblings?

Hi,
Yes Annie had 11 siblings. She only had one child. She spent her time in convents and asylums from the age of 24.

As I said previously, the child born closest to the year you have Ann(ie) in the convent (1928) was a female.

If you go to scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Births, use only Davin as surname & yr 1928

If you haven't already joined it's free to join but costs for credits in batches.

The BC can be ordered online for £12 using credits prepaid.

I did find a possible marriage & death which would/could fit if using possible adoptive parents names as the death gives a different maiden surname for mother  :-\

Marriage

DAVIN MARY & HAMILL HENRY
1948
494/2 11 Renton

Death (born c1929 & the only 1 which fits with the info. you supplied)

DAVIN MARY 71
BLACK (mmn)
2000
505/ 53 Dumbarton

HAMILL MARY 71
BLACK (mmn)
2000
505/ 53 Dumbarton

There was only 1 child of surname Davin born in Scotland 1927 - 1929 which fits the above!

Hi,

Scotland’s people are unable to provide any assistance as the certificates are still locked. The Black/Hamill looks are not relatives of Annie. The child may not have been given Davin as a name so this may also prove to be difficult.

Thanks
