Rev. William John McCracken, First Ballyeaston Church
« on: Wednesday 31 October 18 08:00 GMT (UK) »
I am interested in finding out more about him and his family.  So far, I have found out the following by doing internet searches:

1.  Robert McCracken of Glascar (his father)
2.  John, b. 1830 (brother)
2.  William, b. 1833 (brother)
2.  Rev. William John, b. 1835, so it is likely that his older brother with the same name died young.  Rev. William said to be the 5th son, so that means some sibs unaccounted for;  Rev. William ?m. Dec. 29, 1865 Miss Andrews?  m. ?2 Rachel Ann Harris, d. 1909?
2.  James McCracken, b. 1838 (brother)

Would anyone have any additional  information on the  Rev.'s  parents ,sibs and wives?  It will be interesting to see if this family was somehow related to the famous McCracken family of Belfast.

Thanks.

Strange result from LDS site-

Marriage (1865) in Monaghan- https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FGDF-QK1
Marriage (1865) Castleblayney, Belfast/Belfast, Co.Down- https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QGVD-LJMP (looks like an error selecting place? since Castleblayney is neither in Belfast nor Co. Down)

Also on LDS there is a tree LZP5-YMV  which has him born 1846.

A History of Congregations in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland 1619-1982

Loughmorne Presbyterian Church, Co. Monaghan- "Mr. William John McCracken (lic. Belfast), a Glascar, Loughbrickland man, who was ordained om 5 Dec.1865 and who, after 13 years, accepted a call to First Ballyeaston on 19 May 1878."

First Ballyeaston Presbyterian Church- "The Rev. William John McCracken who was minister at Loughmorne, Co. Monaghan, was installed here on 19 Apr.1878 and during his long ministry he saw the church and school property put in fine order spending what was then a considerable sum of£3,000. A dispute arose between minister and Trustees as to the proceeds of the Manse farm, the minister holding that it was to be held by the minister for the time being while the Trustees believed it should be divided between the minister and congregational purposes. The case went to the High Court whose ruling was in the Minister's favour. He retired a few days before his death on 8 May 1916."
