It is quite rare for a war diary to spell out the details of casualties in such detail, you have been lucky there!  Still, you were probably due some luck given the disappointments with the various service records.  I am delighted for you.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

Thank you, there is a list of casualties at the end of each month upto June 1916 when they stop so been quite lucky for a change

The map at the link below shows where the battalion were deployed in May 1916 (slide the blue transparency button to see today's image.
 Their sector was broadly opposite Puits No 14 seen below Chalk Pit Wood in square H 25c:
