« on: Wednesday 31 October 18 23:30 GMT (UK) »
I have traced my GGGrandfather in 1881 census as a prisoner in Clerkenwell (probably Clerkenwell prison) - how do I find out more please e.g. offence, sentence, where living at the time. Henry John WAYE, born Okehampton 1848
Thanks

In 1911 he was still and Inmate at Southwark, not sure if this is a jail or hospital.

Difficult to work out fully but looks like he was either in the WH Infirmary or the WH itself  between March 1911 - January 1922.

He is shown as a hawker on the entries.  He died in 1927 but there is no entry to support a death in the WH.  The last discharge date available was 21.1.1922

Looks like he was still living in Okehampton in 1871 with his wife, son, daughter and daughter-in-law.
Clerkenwell prison was where people awaiting trial were held the trials being at Middlesex Sessions House.

1871 he and his wife are living with his parents.  No children.  He married Elizabeth Stoneman Sept qtr 1870

Henry was a cabinet maker at that time so I wonder what went wrong

They had 4 children...

WAYE, GERTRUDE  MARY   1872
WAYE, EFFIE  LOUISA        1873
WAYE, JOHN  JAMES          1875
WAYE, HARRY  PHILIP        1877

If these are their children looks like they moved around a bit John James was born in Depwade, Norfolk and Harry Philip was born in Lambeth, London.
