On the 1851, Catherine has her birthplace as Llansaintffraid, Merionethshire.  The only one I know of in Merionethshire is  Llansaintffraid Glyn Dyfrdwy, a few miles east of Corwen (my Robert Jones came from there). Alternatively, there are Ll Glan Conway and Ll Glyn Ceiriog  in  Denbighshire.

We used to refer to both Ll Glyn Dyfrdwy and Ll Glyn Ceiriog without the Llansaintfraid.

Thanks Gadget.

I wonder if the Wynne's with Thomas in 1861 are anything to do with the family of his (possible) first wife Elizabeth Wynne?

I haven't been able to find Catherine in 1861 or 1871 in Merionethshire or Denbighshire.

I have ordered two of the possible GRO Certificates for the 1849 Thomas hopefully to clarify Catherine as the mother (fingers crossed).  Then hopefully work back to the marriage.

hank you for all your advice, help and pointers - I am enjoying this one!

1871 RG10/5680/114/9
Hafoddy Boeth, Gwyddelwern

Robert Wynne, 41,Farmer of 73 acres and landowner,  b.Llanfair, Denbighshire
Elizabeth, wife, 41, b. Gwyddelwern
Elizabeth, d, 13, b. do
Catherine, d, 11, b. do
John Ellis, servant, 20, b. Cerrigydrudion, Denbighshire

Thomas's daughter and son in law.

Thomas's will might give some interesting info.  Maybe Robert was a relative of Elizabeth Wynne and her family owned the farm.

Also, Welsh Tithe maps may show something - https://places.library.wales/

Going off to cook supper now. Will have a look later.

Have found the land that Thomas Evans occupied on the tithe maps . The owner was Griffith Howel Vaughan.  Circa 1840.

Add - see if this will work ~

Thank you for teaching me something new!

I haven't used the tithe maps before so have been having a browse looking at some of the other farms that used to be in the family.

Looking forward to reading and sharing the will when I receive it.  May then have to have a stab at working out the links between Wynne's and Evans's (only after I have written up and added to the tree what you have kindly helped me with so far).

I've enjoyed the searching.

Please report back when you have results of your orders. I'd love to see who Thomas  married.

Also, give a shout if you need any more help.

Still on the Evans group, I have Thomas senior born in Llangwm 1790.  I have found two Thomas Evans' around this year (both 1790), shown below.  As the father's name is not mentioned on the parish marriage between Thomas and Elizabeth and with the possibility of not finding the marriage between Thomas and Catherine, how would I confirm which of the following is him?

Looks as if it's most likely to be  Hugh and Elizabeth .  Yours didn't have a son called Robert or  daughter called Jane, did he, but he did have a Hugh and Elizabeth. (Add - many of our ancestors used family names)

You could check for marriages/deaths/wills etc. and other children as well.
