Photo of Mary Margaret Atherton
« on: Thursday 01 November 18 15:42 GMT (UK) »
This photo is badly damaged but I am hoping someone will be able to do some restoration on it please. Any improvement would be gratefully appreciated.

It's a photo of my grandmother's mother. Hew name is Mary Margaret Atherton and she lived on the Graig in Morriston near Swansea, in Wales.

Do you have the original print? For a small size and 300dpi, I wouldn't have expected to see so much pixelation. I think that its very do-able if we could get a proper scan. I've not done any repair yet but I have used a de-noising filter just as an experiment. Which you can see HERE.

Agree, Andy. I think it's also been sharpened in the scanning  :-\

I put it through a couple of Topaz filters but they couldn't handle it - too much - and just reduced the detail.

It is a lovely picture and would be worth a rescan.

Hi Handypandy, the page would not let me upload the photo in it's original size. It said it had to be no more than 500 KB so I resized it.
I am not very good with modern technology. Should I try again please … or should I try scanning it again ?

This is a beautiful photo and there could be some beautiful results with a better scan. In the meantime this is a restore of your original post.

thank you so much Trishanne that's a great improvement.
When I find the original photo I will rescan it. It's in a box in a spare room which is full of junk at the moment ! lol I will have to look for it.
