Another possibility?

There is a John Gentry living in Purleigh in the 1841 census.

Sure is a tough one!

Edited to add....there is a George Brewer age 11 (so b. 1830ish) living with John in 1841.
We search for information but it is up to the thread owner to verify that it is correct.

There is a John Gentry living in Purleigh in the 1841 census.

That looks likely. Looking through the records I've already transcribed, there are quite a few Gentrys in Purleigh. Unfortunately though, no marriage of a John Gentry to compare the signatures. :(
