Marquis of Sligo's Entourage
« on: Friday 02 November 18 02:04 GMT (UK) »
Please could Rootschatters confirm I have these names correctly

The Marquis of Sligo, the Marchioness, Lady's Louisa, Elizabeth, Catherine, Harriet & Emily Browne. The Lords James, John and Ulick Browne
Mr? Henslow Esq,  Messrs French, Byrne, Andrews and Jacob

then there is a note saying see marg(in) and in the margin are

Mr & Mrs/Master??  Henry
Mrs May
Mrs D'Ouay
Mr Burke
Mr Henley

The big dark squiggle ever so slightly below and to the left of Henslow is PM (ie afternoon)

for context, this is on his way to take up his way to take up the position of Governor of Jamaica in 1834
Thank you as always

Names in margin. One might be Mademoiselle (abbreviated) Heury? Meury? That's the name I think you transcribed as Masters, Henry.

Mrs May might be Leahy. Initial letter doesn't resemble "M" in "Marchioness" in main text.

Hmm, I think you are correct about the Madlle
Wonder who she was. (or any of them really)
A task for another day!

Leahy, I don't see an upstroke for the H. What about Leary?

Governess or companion/chaperone for the daughters, or companion for Marchioness? Might have been a lady's maid. The other women may have had similar roles or been cook, housekeeper or nurse. All those daughters would have required people to look after them.

Could be Leary. I'm no expert.

I agree with Mrs D'ouay.
