Hi, I am having difficulty in finding information on Robert Sydney Maxted, he was born at Petersham in Sydney in 1903, his parents were Major George Maxted b. 1874 and Eva Agnes Smith.
We know that his family moved to St. Kilda in Melbourne at some time, he had an older brother George Frederick Maxted who also lived in Melbourne. The earliest census record I can find for Robert Maxted is 1931 when he is a Stockman at Glenroy Station and subsequently Pastoralist at Mornington Station in the Kimberleys, east of Derby. We believe the Station was owned originally by Kidman, however Maxted named the property Mornington, after the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. He also was a Publican at two Hotels in Derby, the Port Hotel and the Club Hotel during the late 1940's. Records indicate he married in 1941 aged 38 years to a 17 year old lady named Elsie Phyllis Corpus at Broome, daughter of Esther Corpus and Achil Bin Salleh. Elsie's Mother was of mixed cultures, Philippino and Aboriginal.Achil Bin Salleh was from Borneo and was a Pearl Diver in Broome.
We know that Robert & Elsie had two children, one having died in 1967 aged 21 years. I have found a photo of the grave of Robert & Elsie Maxted at Derby Cemetery. Robert died in 2005 aged 102 years, and his wife died in 2002, we believe in Perth.
I have searched in regard to death or funeral notices, and at this stage have had no luck, and also maybe Probate records. Just wondering if anyone out there, could assist with this information please.
Regards
Jan
