Thomas Joseph King Spooner
« on: Saturday 03 November 18 13:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi I hope someone can give me some pointers on tracing my great grandfather Thomas King Spooner who according to records state that he was born in Wicklow Ireland around 1856 his father being named as Edgar Spooner born 1813.......it seems that the majority of Thomas's life was spent in and around London UK signing himself as Spooner or King Spooner for his surname,  records mention he died back in Ireland in 1923     fingers crossed someone can advise?

Hello,

What records do you have re the 1923 death?
I can only see the one as Thomas Spooner in 1923 and he is a bachelor.

thanks for such a prompt and helpful response,  my initial research was to find the origin of the surname King-Spooner.......Thomas who went by the surname Spooner as well as King Spooner shows  on ancestry.com records as birthplace Wicklow Ireland 1856. He was married and divorced a few times in his life so the mention of him being a bachelor is quite feasible, my quandary is that there is also mention of a Thomas King Spooner being born in Islington, London UK around 1857 who also has a father named Edgar Spooner born in 1813, I think this if it is a coincidence is quite remarkable but am inclined to think it is the same person.....at least now I've discovered a register of death and will try to unearth the correct birthplace      regards Griff

There is a newspaper snippet referring to an Elizabeth Escott Spooner, wife of Edgar Spooner, having absconded (3rd time) from  her children - 1860 - Shoreditch Observer.

There is a birth 1857 Thomas Escott Spooner mmn Escott, Clerkenwell. Could this be your man?

Not this family but a Thomas Spooner - no mother’s maiden name b Camberwell 1856.

Was he married or not?
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.
