External Hard Drive

I currently use two flash drives to back up my files, alternating them on a weekly basis, but am wondering if I might be better to use an external hard drive instead/as well. 

Anyone think this is a good idea?  And if so, recommend me which external hard drive to buy, please?

I back up my main family tree file (20+ years of work!) on flash drives so I can carry them in my pocket whenever I leave the house.

I've had no problems with Seagate and Toshiba drives. I use several for multiple levels of backup.
The size to buy (e.g. 500 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB) depends on the amount of data you need to store.

I use Western Digital external drives and have never had any problems.  Depending on the storage capacity you can get them either powered through USB or powered by mains supply.

Will have a browse next time I'm in the vicinity of somewhere that sells 'em.
