William STRONACH and Anne MAN
« on: Monday 05 November 18 07:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to trace William STRONACH who married Ann/Anne MAN in Glass in 1766 and had 3 children that I know of - George 1768, Margaret 1770 and Alexander 1773.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

What do you mean by ‘trace’?

The marriage:

STRONACH William Ann MAN/ 10/07/1766 159/ 40 135 Keith

I also only see the three children.

As jamjar stated the Marriage was at the Parish Church, Keith, Banffshire
William of Glass Parish, Ann of Keith Parish

A William MAN married Jean STRONACH 3 Jan 1769 same Church

William may have been Bapt same Church 25 Dec 1737 to GEORGE/MARGARET nee MALCOLM

There is a ANNA Man Bapt 3 May 1735 Parish Church, Botriphnie, Banffshire, to GEORGE/MARGRAT nee MALCOLM

So this may be your Anns Baptism.

All above on FreeREG

This looks like your William;

WILLIAM Stronach christened 05 Jul 1748, Glass, Aberdeen to THOMAS Stronach and Margt BREMMER
Siblings;
ALEXR 11 December 1744
JOHN 10 May 1759
(large gap, children born elsewhere?)

Source Familysearch.Org

Although it would make Ann 31 at Marriage in 1766 and William only 18.

Only ones I can find though.

As jamjar stated the Marriage was at the Parish Church, Keith, Banffshire
Unless the marriage entry specifically says that the wedding ceremony was held in the church, you cannot assume that it was held there.

It was the exception rather than the rule for a wedding ceremony to be held in the church building. Usually the wedding took place in the bride's parents' home or, if she had no parents or was married a long way from home, in the manse. Only towards the end of the 19th century did weddings in hotels, restaurants and other halls become more fashionable, and it wasn't really until the 20th century that church weddings became the norm.

Baptisms were also often held in the baby's parents' home.

I was actually baptised in the sitting-room of my parents' home, and I was a bridesmaid at a wedding held in the living room of the bride's parents in 1978.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
