Hi Liz, I am sorry you got involved in the discussion yesterday about restoring photos. I believe that as a restorer I aim to restore photos that are posted to as high a standard as possible. I,for one,  was unable to restore the original photo you posted in PDF format, because my laptop will not allow me to convert that format to JPEG which is needed for restoration.
If I believe that an improved scan will produce much better results, I wait to see if one is available before spending a few hours on restoring the image. I do understand that if for one reason or another it is not possible to change the original scan, then I will work with the original and hopefully manage to restore to some degree.
This restoration if from your new scan which was so much easier to work with.
